Ellodie Is Here and Already Home!

Ellodie Elizabeth Waugh arrived at 2:25 PM on Thursday, February 17, 2011. In her first statement of defiance she decided to begin labor at 4:30 AM on the day that we were scheduled to go in for an induction. This was a blessing though because no induction was necessary and mom did an awesome job as usual. It was another amazing experience and we are so thankful for such a perfect little baby girl!

Ben and Charlie came to the hospital only a few hours after the birth of their baby sister. They were very apprehensive and a little nervous about their mom being in a hospital bed but they were also interested in seeing their sister. Charlie is already wanting to hold her all the time. Such good big brothers...so far.

After a long boring day at the hospital yesterday, we were fortunate to be able to come home last night. Mom and baby are doing very well and were cleared for discharge a little sooner than we expected. We arrived home to a clean house and a crazy dog around 7 PM. There is nothing better than being able to crawl into your own bed, especially after sleeping on a pull out chair/bed.

I'm feeling a little guilty right now. There is something about having a little girl that makes me want to take tons and tons of pictures. Ashlee is still asleep and I can't help but get the camera out again. I feel guilty because Charlie will always be the middle child, have hand-me-down clothes for his entire childhood, and will never have as many baby pictures as Ellodie. Please forgive me.

So far things have been going very well at home. She slept very well last night and is in fact still sleeping. She woke up a couple of times to eat but has not been fussy at all. I'm sure it won't last!

Ellodie's Ultrasound Images

Just so she doesn't feel left out...here is an ultrasound image of baby Ellie. I hope to be posting actual pictures of her very soon. Maybe even today!?

Comparing Pregnancies

There are no 2 pregnancies alike. I should know, I have lived through 2.9 of them. I would attach a picture of a growing, or nearly fully grown belly, but I think Ashlee would kill me.

Ben was a piece of cake. Ashlee claims to have felt great and had minimal discomfort even till the end. There was a little reflux apparently but that just ensured Ben had a full head of hair when he arrived. Ashlee continued to work until the day before he was born. Miraculous really if you think about it. He was 4 days early and basically came out screaming and even talking a little.

Benjamin
Charlie was different. He caused great havoc throughout the pregnancy. Ashlee battled illness off and on (moslty on) throughout the entire pregnancy. It was stomach bug after cough after nausea after runny nose. I wondered if she would ever be the same. She didn't have the reflux though and Charlie is still working on filling in his head with hair. It may be long and curly, but it is thin and I fear it may lead to early baldness, but don't tell him. He arrived after induction one day late and has been sweet and sensitive since, at least until he turned 18 months old.

Charlie
Ellie has been difficult in different ways still. Ashlee has been complaining mostly of back pain and other musculoskeletal pain with this pregnancy. The only similarity between Ellie and Charlie is the fatigue. She has been sleepy since day 1 it seems. I am hoping for an early arrival this time but I suspect we will still be waiting on Valentine's day. I will post a picture of Ellie later.

I will tell you that after three I feel like we are finished messing around with this pregnancy stuff. I can't wait for little Ellie to get here so that our family will be complete!

My First Post

This is the beginning of a blogging experiment. We have always talked about writing a blog about ourselves. We just know we are cooler than everyone else and everyone else seems to have a blog, so why not us too. We are Scott, Ashlee, Ben (3.5), Charlie (2) and soon to be baby gorl Ellodie (Feb. 15, 2011). And that dumb dog Sophie (5).

Things are crazy in the Waugh household with the two boys. There is rarely a moment without screaming, crying, laughing or a loud thud (uh oh!). Ashlee and I try to be positive and just shake our heads and smile. Like Chris used to do to me in college. The boys have no idea what's coming for them in a few weeks. This baby girl is going to change the family dynamic and the pecking order, like it or not. We have talked to them about it for many months but no one is ever really ready for a new baby.

Just the other day Charlie was wanting to sit on his mom's lap. She politely said, "Charlie, there isn't any room on my lap. There is a baby in here." He responded just as politely and matter-of-factly, "Move out! Move out!" as he pointed to Ashlee's stomach. Oh, you sweet little girl. Get ready to be terrorized!
